Armed Forces Compensation Claims for Accidents & Injury
Three soldiers who were seriously hurt in a helicopter crash in 2007 have lodged personal injury claims that may see the Ministry of Defence (MoD) have to pay out up to £300,000 in compensation.
The three soldiers were passengers on a Puma military helicopter when the pilot tried to carry out a manoeuvre that he was not capable of doing, this resulted in the crash in which three other soldiers were fatally injured.
The three men claiming compensation suffered serious injuries in the helicopter crash including a broken back, a dislocated hip and severe head injuries.
All three had to leave their jobs with the military on medical grounds and have since started legal action against the MoD to claim personal injury compensation.
Being a member of the armed forces carries with it a level of danger, however as with any employer the Ministry of Defence has a duty of care to their employees and must ensure all steps are taken to prevent anyone suffering an accident or injury while they are at work.
Common accidents that may result in a claim being made include injuries sustained during training exercises where insufficient instruction is given to the trainee, accidents using equipment or machinery without proper supervision or without the correct protective clothing or equipment and injuries sustained when being carried in a military vehicle (such as a lorry, personnel carrier or aircraft).
Injuries sustained can range from bruising to broken bones and in some cases, very serious injuries or even fatalities.
Any member of the armed forces who suffers an injury through no fault of their own will very likely be able to make a claim for personal injury compensation and should do this through a specialist personal injury Solicitor.
