A former shipyard worker has received £70,000 following a compensation claim after he was diagnosed with asbestos related cancer mesothelioma.

Shipyard Mesothelioma Asbestos Compensation Claims

The compensation was awarded after he was exposed to asbestos while working as a lagger within the Shipyard based in the North East of England.

Mesothelioma is a fatal cancer of the lining of the lung. There is no known cure for the disease which is caused by exposure to asbestos and many sufferers die within months of diagnosis.

Shipyards are known for high incidences of Mesothelioma due to the amount of Asbestos workers come into contact with during the ship building process, a similar level of asbestos exposure occurs within many other sectors of heavy industry and engineering.

Sufferers of Mesothelioma are generally offered good quality support (both to patients and their families) to assist them through a very difficult time.

Payment of compensation in these cases will obviously never restore the health of someone with a terminal illness but it does provide some reassurance and financial security.
