A recent report by BBC News highlighted the growing number of people suffering injuries in the home following accidents with home computers and trips over computer cables.

The figure for accidents in the home involving PC’s and computers stands at over 2000 a year. Many of these accidents result in just minor bumps and bruises, however some accidents can lead to very serious injuries.

The most common accidents involving computers are:

  • Tripping over computer cables
  • Injuries from lifting heavy computer equipment
  • Accidents involving children
  • Injuries from falling monitors
  • Electric shock injuries

The situation is similar for office workers who find themselves exposed to the same dangers and risks of suffering an accident at work involving a computer or unsafe PC cables.

Many people don’t realise that they may be able to make a personal injury claim for compensation, regardless of whether the accident happened in someones home or in the workplace.

For example, a visitor who has an accident at a friends house could make a claim against the owners household insurance for their injuries and an employee can claim against the employers business insurance policy.

If you are injured in an accident, it is your right to claim, don’t be put off by the fact that the other party may be a friend or employer. A specialist personal injury solicitor will handle the claim on your behalf and they will  deal directly with the insurance company, not your friend or employer.
