Here in the UK if a dog bites someone chances are it will be put down, especially if the attack is on a toddler and causes serious injury.
In the United States things are a little different…
Recently a toddler was bitten in the face and was rushed to hospital and for extensive reconstructive surgery.
The dog, a 100 lb bull mastiff, has since been returned to his family home. Even for America this is an unusual turn of events, to say the least.
The 2-year-old boy put his face on the stomach of a the sleeping dog. The dog, who had never before exhibited any aggression, suddenly woke up and bit the toddler in the face.
The prime reason the dog was saved was that the boys family agrees he had never before been aggressive and they did not want the dog killed.
To make a successful claim for compensation following a dog bite attack in the UK it helps if it can be proved that the dog had a history of agression before the attack, often claimants can find evidence by speaking to neighbours, or even the postman.
