Following discussions with the Financial Ombudsman Service this week Pinto Potts Solicitors have discovered that PPI (Payment Protection Insurance) claims are being handled with much more flexibility, particularly when it comes to the issue of them being rejected purely due to the date they were sold.

It appears the Financial Ombudsman Service have adopted a much more “can do” approach in an effort to help victims of mis-selling reach a succesful outcome with their PPI reclaims.

This potentially paves the way for thousands of PPI claimants who thought they were unable to make a compensation claim to present their case to the Ombudsman for consideration.

Previously the Financial Ombudsman Service would generally only consider complaints about PPI policies sold after January 2005 (with some exceptions for firms who were GISC registered), however they have this week confirmed that the date the insurance was sold is no longer such an issue, however they also emphasised that every case is being considered on its own merits.
