A new study has revealed that many UK motorists are increasing their chances of having a car accident by getting behind the wheel when they are too tired to do so.
The survey suggested that large numbers of drivers are significantly increasing their chances of having a road traffic accident by driving their car without having adequate sleep the night before.
The study showed that 80% of drivers surveyed had gone to bed after 10pm the previous night and a worrying figure of 86% admitted having less than the recommended minimum of 8 hours sleep.
Two-thirds of motorists surveyed said they were often unable to sleep and said that this has had an impact on their concentration levels when driving the following day.
Alarmingly 75% of the drivers who took part in the survey admitted to driving their car to work through the morning rush hour without a healthy amount of sleep.
Driving while tired is dangerous, but sometimes unavoidable, for tips on how to stay alert behind the wheel and more about driving while tired visit the Safer Motoring website.
