Three soldiers who were seriously hurt in a helicopter crash in 2007 have lodged personal injury claims that may see the Ministry of Defence (MoD) have to pay out up to £300,000 in compensation.

The three soldiers were passengers on a Puma military helicopter when the pilot tried to carry out a manoeuvre that he was not capable of doing, this resulted in the crash in which three other soldiers were fatally injured.

The three men claiming compensation suffered serious injuries in the helicopter crash including a broken back, a dislocated hip and severe head injuries.

All three had to leave their jobs with the military on medical grounds and have since started legal action against the MoD to claim personal injury compensation.

Being a member of the armed forces carries with it a level of danger, however as with any employer the Ministry of Defence has a duty of care to their employees and must ensure all steps are taken to prevent anyone suffering an accident or injury while they are at work.

Common accidents that may result in a claim being made include injuries sustained during training exercises where insufficient instruction is given to the trainee, accidents using equipment or machinery without proper supervision or without the correct protective clothing or equipment and injuries sustained when being carried in a military vehicle (such as a lorry, personnel carrier or aircraft).

Injuries sustained can range from bruising to broken bones and in some cases, very serious injuries or even fatalities.

Any member of the armed forces who suffers an injury through no fault of their own will very likely be able to make a claim for personal injury compensation and should do this through a specialist personal injury Solicitor.

Payment Protection Insurance or PPI is the extra add-on insurance attached to loans, credit cards and car finance that is supposed to pay out when the borrower is unable to meet their payments, many PPI policies were mis-sold and fail to meet the promises made at the time of the sale.

Despite the recent decision by a number of major lenders to no longer deal with certain types of Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) complaints, Pinto Potts Solicitors are urging anyone who has taken out a loan, credit card or car finance with PPI attached to it to make sure they get their complaint lodged as soon as possible.

Although a handful of lenders are now refusing to consider certain types of complaints and are arguing with the Financial Ombudsman Service about this, it is still possible to make a PPI claim as the Financial Ombudsman Service have stated that they are continuing to handle complaints as normal.

This means, regardless of the lender or banks final decision regarding the PPI complaint it can then be presented to the Financial Ombudsman Service if the lender rejects the claim, currently FOS are upholding nearly 90% of PPI cases put to them.

Recent media reports may put people off making a claim and give the impression it’s now to late to claim back mis-sold PPI, this simply isn’t the case, nothing has changed in the way the Financial Ombudsman Service handle PPI complaints and ultimately FOS have the final say.

Pinto Potts Solicitors are specialists in claiming back Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) that has been added to a loan or credit agreement.

In many cases victims of PPI mis-selling were not told the payment protection insurance was being added to the loan and in other examples of mis-selling victims were told they could not have the loan without also taking out the often costly additional PPI cover.

In other cases PPI was sold to people when it was totally unsuitable, such as people who were self-employed or suffering from a medical condition, which are both specifically excluded from the cover.

There are many other examples of PPI mis-selling that have been used by banks, loan companies and other financial institutions all of which have seen them inundated with complaints from people wanted to claim back their PPI premiums.

Due to the huge number of complaints involved many lenders, banks and loan companies attempt to reject the claims, leaving many victims unsure of what to do next.

By having a specialist PPI Solicitor handling the claim from start to finish means victims are safe in the knowledge that there is a very high chance of success and a compensation payout.

If you have taken out a loan in the past five years have a look at your credit agreement to see if Payment Protection Insurance was included, if it was you could be entitled to claim back thousands of pounds.

Recently released research has shown that the risk of a serious accident on the road reaches it’s highest level amongst school pupils in the early years of secondary education (ages 10-13).

The government figures suggest the rise in accidents may be due to children who were previously driven to and from school instead making their own way by using alternative modes of transport, such as the bus, cycling or walking.
