Trip Injury Accidents on Uneven Pavements & Kerbs – Millions Paid Out in Compensation Claims
Posted by simon Trip injuries on uneven kerbs, paths, slabs and pavements are costing local councils millions of pounds in personal injury claims and compensation payments, it has been revealed. Recent statistics show that over £82 million has been paid out in the last five years alone. According to the figures there are over 10,000 cases waiting to be settled, which means this figure is set to go even higher.
A spokesman for the Liberal Democrats (who revealed the statistics) said that “some councils were too ready to ignore pedestrians and put all of their funds into motorists with little or no effort going into helping people who walk, cycle or take public transport”.
He went onto say: “It appears that some councils seem to be making the cynical calculation that they can afford to pay out compensation rather than invest in improving pavements.
“This could prove to be a costly mistake if pavements are allowed to deteriorate too far.â€
